First Anti-SLAPP workshop held in Slovakia

JUDr. Tomáš Langer, LL.M., trainer for the PATFox Anti-SLAPP legal workshop in Bratislava

The first Slovak event took place on Wednesday 14 December 2022 from 13:00 to 15:00 at the Slovak Bar Association venue (at Kolárská 4 in Bratislava) led (in Slovak) by the prominent legal expert, JUDr. Tomáš Langer, LL.M.

The workshop was conducted in Slovak by Attorney-at-Law JUDr. Tomáš Langer, LL.M., a legal practitioner, specialised in the media-related cases, with a first-hand experience with dozens of SLAPP-related and similar lawsuits. Dr. Langer in 2021 participated at the comparative study produced with the financial support of the European Commission that looked at the legal environment of SLAPPs in the EU and its Member States.

Beside introducing the PATFox project and the Slovak partner (MEMO 98), the webinar attempted to shed more legal light into the SLAPP phenomenon - its international context, presenting the current international legal framework, and a discussion about the draft EU Directive, publicly presented in April 2022.

The core part of the webinar was, however, devoted to Slovak realities – providing to a participating legal community a thorough overview of the national legislative framework and its legal applicable institutes; as well as focusing on the analysis of some relevant cases, in particular the case of Slovak expert-based project www.konspiratori.sk. The website contains a list of websites that, in the opinion of the independent experts, have content that is ‘questionable’ - untrustworthy, deceptive, fraudulent, conspiratorial or propagandistic.

More about the event can be found at MEMO 98’s website.
